Bluesman David Skinner excited to enter Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame

When guitarist-vocalist David Skinner showed up at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame on a Saturday morning several weeks ago, he thought he was going to be meeting his friend, Hall board member Steve Alter

Then, he thought, they'd be going over ideas for upcoming blues concerts with Chuck Cissel, the hall's chief executive officer.

He met them both, all right. But instead of talking about shows, they talked about Skinner.  Continued in it's entirity......

First off, get your minds out of the proverbial gutter!  Phrases like “grooving” and “in the pocket” in the same sentence could lead to some misunderstandings before we can get the story started.  Let me explain myself and I will educate some of you on a few terms and phrases that are very important to a musician.  There is also a second reason.  It will help in the understanding of this article.  So please stick with me for a bit because some of this might need explaining.  I admit I’ve been waiting for a chance to write this one.  I get to write about a drummer! Not just any drummer, one of the best in town, and since we happen to be old friends, I had better get it right!  Tim and I sat down over some lunch, and somewhere in the middle of all the catching up on old times, bike stories and typical drummer gab, I managed to come up with an article.
